2022 Annual Meeting

Hello Alamo Placita Neighbors!
For 38 years, the Alamo Placita Neighbors Association (APNA) has actively worked to protect, promote, and enhance our quality of life, while fostering community throughout our neighborhood.  This is an exciting time to live in Denver as our city grows and evolves every day.  We are fortunate to live in one of the most desirable, walkable, and beautiful neighborhoods in the city. We have great restaurants, coffee shops, bars, unique shopping, grocery stores, offices, recreation trails, and parks all within walking distance of our homes.  Best of all we have great neighbors and friends who have made our neighborhood a highly desirable place to live.  APNA is a Registered Neighborhood Organization (RNO) of the City of Denver consisting of volunteers who reside in the Alamo Placita boundaries.  Over the years APNA has had more than 85 different board members and over 160 other volunteers who have worked hard to preserve and enhance the Alamo Placita neighborhood.

The challenges of the last two years have changed so much about how we spend each day and have made so many of us re-evaluate what is important to us. With so many of us working from home and spending more time at and around our homes, it is that much more important to become engaged with your neighbors and involved in your neighborhood. One of the best ways to get involved and to keep informed of what is happening in the neighborhood is to attend the APNA annual meeting and become a member or renew your membership of the Alamo Placita Neighbors Association.  CLICK HERE TO JOIN OR RENEW NOW!

Membership has its benefits!

Neighborhood Communication:
Through our website, email, and social media pages, we keep our neighbors and members informed of community activities, City of Denver issues and developments, crime and safety concerns, and relevant news. APNA also hosts neighborhood meetings to provide information and gather input on topics such as development, liquor and marijuana licenses, and zoning issues. It is a personal goal of mine to increase our communication and community engagement and involvement, and there is no better time than the present!

Neighborhood Development:
As Denver grows and changes, APNA works to protect the historic character and architecture of the neighborhood.  We help neighbors find information and solutions related to zoning, parking issues, building permits, and historic preservation.  To ensure our neighborhood’s history and quality of life is preserved and represented, APNA meets with and maintains working relationships with developers, businesses, and many city agencies, including:  Public Works, the Denver Police Department, Parks and Recreation, the Landmark Preservation Commission, and City Council.  This past year, we have continued to help find solutions to improve traffic safety, remove graffiti, parking, historic design review, and negotiated Good Neighbor Agreements with new businesses.

The Historic District and Design Review:
The Alamo Placita Historic District is located within our neighborhood and is one of many historic districts within Denver. In addition to zoning codes for each property, the City of Denver Landmark Preservation Commission oversees building and design guidelines for construction, additions, windows, and other alterations to properties within the historic districts.  All construction within the Alamo Placita Historic District is subject to review by the Landmark Preservation Commission before building permits are issued.   APNA participates with the Landmark Preservation Commission and other neighborhood groups to assist property owners with their initial designs. APNA also formally reviews large scale additions and new infill construction to help ensure development is within the context of the district.  Please contact us anytime for questions about building within the Alamo Placita Historic District, or please visit the City of Denver Landmark Preservation Commission website to download the complete design guidelines for historic districts.

Community Participation:
APNA actively collaborates with surrounding neighborhood organizations such as Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods (CHUN), and Inter- Neighborhood Cooperation (INC).  APNA has two board member delegates to INC.   Our board members regularly attend and participate in transportation, safety, zoning and planning, and various other community meetings.  APNA has also been involved in local charitable activities such as the Joy Wine & Spirits’ Chili Cook-Off.

Neighborhood Happy Hours:
APNA hosts neighborhood happy hours at our neighborhood bars and restaurants. These events are a great way for residents to meet their neighbors and the APNA Board while enjoying drinks and appetizers at special happy hour prices.  NEIGHBORHOOD HAPPY HOURS ARE SCHEDULED TO RETURN ON A STANDARD SCHEDULE IN JUNE!!

Historic District Plaques:
After the Alamo Placita Historic District was established in 2000, residents began to request a plaque that would recognize the historic character of their homes.  Since 2005, we have sold and installed our beautiful custom-designed brass plaques on more than 200 homes and businesses within the Alamo Placita Historic District.   CLICK HERE for more information. CLICK HERE to order!

Monthly Board Meetings:
Board meetings are held the third Wednesday each month at 7p.m., at 383 Corona St., unless announced otherwise.  APNA board meetings are open to the public and we welcome your comments and discussion on topics during the specified time on the agenda. Special thanks to Shift Workspaces for donating their wonderful conference room for our meetings.
